Stampede History
In 1946 an informal conversation between townsmen led to the development of an annual celebration and rodeo that would bring the area’s residents together to celebrate their way of life, preserve the traditions of the Old West, and also draw folks from surrounding areas to share in this celebration. Now in its 64th year, The Elgin Stampede alone draws an average of 5,000 spectators and participants each year.
Message from the President
Welcome to the Stampeders' 65th anniversary! As president of our organization I want to personally say ‘thank you’ to each and every Stampede officer, director, sponsor, volunteer, spectator, and contestant! Because of people like you, the sport of rodeo continues to thrive.
As Stampeders, we work to improve our organization and our grounds each year – we work to bring you a quality rodeo – we work to bring an economic boost to our town – and we work to further the tradition and heritage of the Old West. We appreciate what our founders created and we’ll continue to further that tradition for as long as we are able.
We look forward to seeing you at the 65th Annual Elgin Stampede!
